Dear Tommy Tornroos

After months of planning, programming, video watching, talent wrangling, late-night take-out eating, and fervent finger-crossing, the 2012 Vimeo Festival + Awards really actually happened! We did it! Again! The Festival + Awards took place June 7-9 in New York City, and whether you attended or just want to live vicariously through those who did, here's a look at how it all went down:

The Awards show was awesome

Featuring live performances by Reggie Watts and Beardyman, the 2012 Awards celebrated the world's best videos — and their creators — using a combination of insane technology, mind-melting musical numbers, and good old-fashioned human emotion. We presented 13 category awards, three honorary awards, and one whopping Grand Prize, which went to Everynone for "Symmetry."

Please please please watch all the winning films and get a slick recap of the night in our Awards highlights video.

The Festival brought us all together

The Vimeo Festival was one wild weekend of riveting conversations, skill-sharpening workshops, and screenings of our favorite videos. We had an amazing time hanging out with Vimeo aficionados from around the world, and we were continually reminded that what makes Vimeo special is (sincerity alert!) the people who use it. Check out some of our favorite Festival moments via videos we captured during the weekend:

  • Be awestruck by Dr. Reginald Watts' brilliant keynote address.

  • Get emotional as 2010 Grand Prize winner Eliot Rausch premieres his new film, "LIMBO."

  • Think about Internet memes as June Cohen predicts the future of viral videos.

Finally, we finished off the Festival by shaking our booties to beats from DJ Spooky and Motion Potion at the Closing Party. And we've got pictures to prove it.
